(Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 1929 - Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 1995): Ceramic sculptor and educator. She explored the plasticity of the ceramic material in a wide range of formats, ranging from a series of small objects to large pieces integrated into sets, performances, and installations. As an educationist, Tostes organized numerous art projects with disadvantaged communities, in which she was dedicated to teaching ceramic and metal sculpture techniques. Institutionally, she became involved with the Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage. As for her personal artistic work, she took ceramics beyond functionality, placing it as a form of experimental exercise in the context of research in contemporary art, delving into topics related to femininity, sexuality and the body.
