John Burstein

(United States of America, 1952) Curator and cultural promoter. A Mexican citizen since 1999, he studied cultural anthropology and worked in several civil society organizations on holistic development and collective human rights issues. Since his arrival and settling, in 1973, he has developed his work mainly in various Mayan villages in the highlands of Chiapas. For the last eight years, he has been devoted to Mayan and Zoque art in Chiapas as a promoter (gallery owner), director, and curator; he is the founder of the art space GaleMUY. Burstein shares his time between Chiapas and Mexico City, where he represents the GaleMUY project and facilitates the exhibition of art by Mayan and Zoque-speaking creators associated with GaleMUY.
