Michelle Farias Sommer

(Getúlio Vargas, Brazil, 1978) Researcher and writer. She works as a professor, curator, and visual arts critic. Currently, she is a postdoctoral fellow in Visual Languages at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (2017-2021) with a research focus on Latin American contemporary cultures. She holds a PhD in History, Theory and Art Criticism from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (2012-2016). She has been a visiting researcher at the University of the Arts London / Central Saint Martins (2015). She has a master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (2003-2005) in the area of City, Culture, and Politics. She is an architect and urban planner (Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul, 1997-2002). She has written and organized several books and regularly contributes as an art critic to national and international publications and visual arts projects in different formats. She is also a member of the Brazilian Association of Art Critics (ABCA).
