María José Machado Gutiérrez

(Cuenca, Ecuador, 1984) Artist, cultural manager, and educator. PhD candidate in Education and Innovation at the Universidad de Investigación e Innovación de México (UIIX). She has a Master’s degree in Theory and Philosophy of Art and a Bachelor of Arts. She teaches Visual Arts and is director of postgraduate studies in Arts at the University of Cuenca. Since 2007, she is dedicated to action art and community practice. In 2016, she was part of the Deformes Biennial in Chile. In 2018, she was awarded artist of the year at the Cuenca International Biennial. In 2019, she was a fellow of the CIFO-ART scholarship program. In 2022, she won the second prize at the Rio Negro International Biennial in Argentina. Her work has been exhibited in Colombia, Bolivia, Mexico, Chile, France, the United States, Argentina, and Spain.
