Ticio Escobar

(Asunción, Paraguay, 1947) Art critic, curator, museologist, professor, and cultural promoter. Director of the Centro de Artes Visuales / Museo del Barro. He served as Secretary of Culture of Paraguay (2008-2013) and as Director of Culture of the Municipality of Asunción (1992-1996). He was president of the Paraguayan chapter of the International Association of Art Critics and president of the Asociación de Apoyo a las Comunidades Indígenas del Paraguay. His work focuses on the study of indigenous, popular, and contemporary art, encompassing aesthetic and cultural theory, as well as the analysis of the impact of globalization on local cultures. Escobar has been curator of events such as the I Chile Triennial (2009), Encuentro entre dos mares / Convivencias conflictivas (Generalitat Valenciana, Valencia, Spain), Sao Paulo Biennial (2007), VI Curitiba Biennial (Brazil, 2011), among others. Some of his main publications include Una interpretación de las artes visuales en el Paraguay (Colección de las Américas. Asuncion, 1982 and 1984.
