Michelle Ricardo

(Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, 1986) Visual artist, poet, and social activist. She graduated from the Altos de Chavón School of Design and the National School of Arts of the National Autonomous University of Mexico. She is co-founder of the Proyecto Anticanon and coordinator of the Taller Público Silvano Lora. Her creative discourse is grounded on the critical and reflective standpoint of the experience of being aware of being an islander woman of African descent, before an alienated and self-sacrificing society in the heart of the Caribbean. She has published the collection of poems AyitiQuisqueya (Editorial Anticanon, 2019). Her poetic work also appears in Antología Liberoamericana, 80 poetas contemporáneas (Liberoamerica, 2018). She was a member of the international hip-hop collective Quilomboarte, making spoken word. She has performed in several poetic presentations in Mexico, Colombia, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic.
